Motivation Monday: YOLO (you only live once)! Be the best version of yourself.

Do you wake up every morning feeling like you are the best version of yourself and that you could die tomorrow with no regrets, goals or dreams left behind? One of the best quotes I’ve ever heard opened my eyes to a new purpose of life. “The wealthiest place on the planet is the graveyard, because in the graveyard you will find inventions that we never were exposed to, ideas, dreams that never became a reality, hopes and aspirations that were never acted upon.” We all have our goals and aspirations but less than a quarter of us will pursue it. Whether your dream is to own your own business or to be the next Jillian Michaels (obviously that’s mine), we all have a dreams that we visualize for ourselves. So why don’t we go for it? Why don’t we follow through with these ambitions if just thinking about it makes us feel so alive? It is because we lack the motivation, perseverance, and resilience. We don’t want to put in the work and we don’t want to accept failure. Well if we aren’t pursuing our goals and dreams what are we doing with our lives? We have one life, a precious one; why not do something extraordinary with it.

So ask yourself, at this moment in your life are you the best version of you. That is why we’re here right? To be the best you can be, to make a difference in this world, to learn, to experience and live life to its fullest. We spend most of our lives working, so if we are miserable working then we are miserable for most of our lives. The solution: Do what you love to do and if you can’t, find something outside of work that you love to do. Pick a hobby, something that sparks an interest. Try new things, meet new people, or explore the world.  We dream about it and may even say that we will get around to it but we never do. We are afraid of the unknown. But if you just take that chance and step outside of your comfort zone, opportunities appear that you never even fathomed. Think about what makes you feel alive. If you have a goal, go for it. Even if it is something small, you are still becoming a better you. We all are brilliant in our own way.  Anything is possible and if you can dream it you can do it. Yes there will be sacrifices along the way, hardships and setbacks but at least you are trying. There is no failure if you did the best you could. Failure is only failure if you failed to try. Then you can leave this opportunistic world with no regrets, knowing that you gave it your all and you were the best you could be. That is the most powerful feeling a human can have.

So figure out what makes you feel alive and just go with it. Let’s start off 2014 being our best selves and truly start living!

I loved what you said in your blog. It is very true and I believe that I am living my life to the fullest. I am doing what I love to do and that is singing. It fills my heart and makes me happy. I am preparing to do a cabaret showcase on 2/17. I am currently selecting music whose themes are always about joy and grabbing life and not letting go and of course, love. I have a love in my life that I never expected at my age which is 82 years old. We are in sync with each other; by that I mean we try to find joy in whatever life has in store for us .
